Seed Propagation

Pollen

Collected from 1) bag seed males, 2) commercial regular seed males, or 3) females self-ed with STS.

Pollination

Manual pollination occurs week 3 after flowering begins. Open air pollination allowed week 3 of flower to week 4 of flower.

Harvest

Branches with seeds are harvested 5 to 10 weeks after pollination.

Drying

Seeds are dried in situ after harvest for 10 days then on paper for 1 week at room temperature.

Sorting

Seeds with defects on the seed coat, lightly colored, or easily compressed with firm pressure, are discarded. Bounce tested then sorted into 40 to 55 seed lots and sealed into vials.

Average Seed Weight

Sorted seeds are counted and weighed—an extrapolated gram weight per 1,000 is calculated.

Stratification

Seeds subjected to a minimum of 3 weeks cold storage in a dry environment.

Viability

Germination percentage and germination rate are tested after drying, sorting, and cold storage.

On the new moon of September 14^th 2023, a Blueberry F5 pollination was used to get the blue checkmark on the new hybrid.

“Black Lime Reserve F3. F2: I bought original F1’s from Aficionado Estates (where Mean Gene from Mendocino was the head breeder) back in 2014 when it won 2nd place at Emerald cup.

I selected the 2 best of 3 males and hit them to the best 3 females I found. My selections ended up being more towards the Black Lime side which it much more broad-leafed than a lot of other BLR selections I’ve seen which is more CDSR leaning. F3: Open pollination of 100 seed hunt. I selected 17 females and 6 males from F2. All plants were selected from a 100 seed F2 hunt. Of the 100 seeds 98 popped. I selected out the variegated traits of the Chemdog that was showing up in the line, causing mutants. As they grew in vegetative mode, I keep culling out the undesirable phenotypes. Then in flowering I was able to select through the best of the best! I kept a good diversity in the line and you can expect Sour Limey Pine in the plants grown. They yield pretty well overall, some a little better than others.”

The FUNK FROM MARS #1/#3 An open pollination to preserve as many phenotypes of TFFM as possible. As described by Shwale: “The Funk From Mars” aka “Big Burgundy Funk Glands From Mars” aka “BBFGFM” Dark Burgundy reddish-purple flowers common. Multi-Gland and Weak-Neck Trichome traits were most common from this cross making it *THE *BEST *WASHER from the ‘Diamond Glands’ line. Slight anthocyanin spotting in the glands gives a mauve tinge to melted/flagged hash. Some phenos are strong floral berries, while others have musky red clay up front. People seem to gravitate to the aroma of the mixed pheno hash since its fruity & earthy.
